1.1 Background of the Study
The aftermath of conflict often leaves deep psychological, social, and economic scars on affected communities. In areas like Gwoza Local Government Area (LGA) in Borno State, the consequences of prolonged insurgency have been particularly devastating. The community, once thriving with its own cultural and social dynamics, has faced significant challenges in rebuilding infrastructure, restoring peace, and addressing the trauma of conflict. While post-conflict recovery involves various strategies, one crucial aspect that has been underexplored is the role of visual documentation, particularly photography. Photography, with its power to capture real-time developments, has the ability to chronicle the recovery process, highlight both successes and challenges, and preserve historical records for future generations. This study explores the role of photography in documenting the post-conflict recovery efforts in Gwoza, shedding light on how visual storytelling can capture the resilience of the community, the rebuilding of infrastructure, and the healing of collective trauma.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
In Gwoza, the recovery from conflict is a slow and arduous process, often hindered by limited resources, insecurity, and the pervasive trauma among the people. While there is recognition of the need for recovery, the process is not always well-documented or communicated to external stakeholders, which can limit the mobilization of support and resources. Photography offers a powerful means of chronicling these recovery efforts, but its potential in this area remains underutilized. This study aims to assess how photography can be used to chronicle the post-conflict recovery process in Gwoza and how such visual documentation can aid in raising awareness, mobilizing resources, and promoting the healing process.

1.4 Research Questions
1.5 Research Hypotheses
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is important because it underscores the role of photography in post-conflict recovery efforts. By documenting the rebuilding of Gwoza, photography can not only serve as a historical record but also aid in the healing of trauma by showcasing the community's resilience. Furthermore, photographic documentation can attract global attention, facilitating external support and resource mobilization for sustainable recovery.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on the role of photography in chronicling post-conflict recovery specifically in Gwoza LGA, Borno State. It is limited to the use of photography as a tool for documentation and does not consider other forms of media or interventions in post-conflict recovery.
